Can you believe it's been 50 years since the iconic movie Jaws first hit the big screen? That's right, five decades of fear-inducing music, shark attacks, and one-liners that have become ingrained in pop culture. Some of you may be old enough to remember the first cinema screenings, some of you may be chomping at the bit to go and see it now. Regardless, let's explore this classic film together and learn how to celebrate its anniversary in style!

What Makes Jaws a Timeless Classic?

From the ominous notes of John Williams' opening theme, there is much of Jaws that has become ingrained in modern culture. Much of the reason for this comes from the extensive marketing campaign that accompanied the release in 1975 as well as the vast array of cinemas across the world that showed it. 

Furthermore, for the 1970's, Jaws was considered somewhat of a pioneer for simplistic but highly entertaining box office action movies. Using Hitchcockian elements, adults and teenagers alike enjoyed the spectacle of a man-eating shark on the rampage!

How to Celebrate the 50th Anniversary?

Well, this depends on where you are. 

If you're in the USA TCM Film Festival are showing a special screening in April and a nationwide release in August. More info on this can be found here

If you're in the UK, not a lot has been announced as far as nationwide theatre's go.  Some small venues near you may be showing it, but there is a new DVD release set for the summer which you can find out more about here
